Description:

6. THE RADIO BOMB. Electrical Experimenter, August
1917. Anon. ill.
Short story. Borderline science-fiction about a
smart bomb. * The suspicious yokels at Pine Mountain
come to the conclusion that Hardy is a German
spy, since he is secretive and seems to be working
with bombs of various sorts. A quasi-posse, which
is more like a lynch mob, is about to take matters
into its hands when a crisis arises: The small town
is endangered by an ice jam that is causing the
river to flood. Dick Preston, Hardy's friend and
contact man, resolves both problems by suggesting
that Hardy blow up the ice jam with the device he
has been working on: a radio-controlled bomb. Captain
Hardy is an ordnance officer perfecting a secret
weapon for the U. S. Army. * Patriotic fiction.
