Description:

A reader approaching this pair of novels in the sixties might reasonably expect _Space Captain_ to be the better of the two. After all, Leinster was a familiar name. He was the acknowledged Dean of Science Fiction, and he was usually a consistently reliable craftsman. Moreover, the novel had a bit of a track record. It had been serialized in _Amazing_ in 1965 under the title "Killer Ship." But in truth, _Space Captain_ is a tired and unimaginative space opera featuring a cardboard hero, a virtuous heroine, some dastardly pirates, and a stupid ship's engineer whose space drives keep blowing up. (This is presented as a hilarious running joke thoughout the novel.) I give it a two star rating.
