Description:

1258. THE JEWELED IBIS. The Thrill Book, 1-15
March 1919.
Borderline science-fiction elements in a mishmash of
adventure oddments. * Egypt. * Dave Hudson, "the
strongest, bravest, and luckiest daredevil that
sailed the Seven Seas," turns up in Alexandria after
a three-mile swim to shore. He is on the track of
a defecting British officer who has secret documents.
* The fantastic part enters when Hudson
learns of a hidden temple in Egypt where the body of
an ancient Egyptian princess is preserved in chemical
suspended animation, together with a supply of
a reviving medication. Associated with this is an
underground group that still worships the gods of
Ancient Egypt in the Great Pyramid. * Hudson tangles
with the cultists, watches as the ancient priestess
revives and speaks the words that save his life, and
discovers that the priest of Ra heading the cult is
really the English spy he has been tracking. * In
anticipation of Sax Rohmer's She Who Sleeps the
priestess is a fake. * Inartistic and completely
lacking in conviction. The author did better in
later life.
